Description

Apollospace is pleased to offer a collection of Apollo 11 vintage event and First Day covers which have been affixed with a remnant piece of Apollo 11 flown Kapton foil that was originally part of the protective insulation of the Apollo 11 Command Module, “Columbia,” and was flown in space from July 16-24, 1969. Apollo 11 was the first mission to land men on the Moon and return them safely to Earth. The Kapton from which the attached remnants were cut was originally auctioned by Goldberg Auctioneers from the personal collection of NASA Production Control Engineer William Whipkey (documents provided).

Each Apollo 11 event (commemorating an event contemporaneously during a mission) or first day cover (commemorating a stamp issue) has been carefully selected for quality and condition. The flown kapton foil has been affixed to the front of the cover within a 1-inch stamp. On the reverse, each cover is assigned a unique series number. Each cover is accompanied by an item specific Letter of Authenticity fully describing the provenance of the flown kapton foil.

Approximately .25 inch square piece of flown Apollo 11 kapton foil attached with archival glue to cover # 58/104. Series A11-1.
