APOLLOSPACE is pleased to offer a collection of Apollo 14 “Orbit Covers” event covers which have been affixed with a segment of Apollo 14 Lunar Surface Flown Lunar Surface Safety Line that was carried to the Moon aboard the Apollo 14 Lunar Module “Antares” and then travelled with the Apollo 14 Astronauts during their two lunar surface EVAs from February 5-6, 1971. After splashdown on February 9, 1971, the 100-foot Lunar Surface Safety Line was removed and cut up into one-inch segments which were affixed to 2.5 x 3.75-inch cards, with the Line and text about the Line printed on one side of the card and the name of the NASA employee to whom the card was presented printed on the other side and laminated. These cards were contemporaneously presented to NASA employees, and one of the cards was subsequently purchased by APOLLOSPACE.
The one-inch x 1/4-inch segment of Lunar Surface Flown Lunar Surface Safety Line was removed from the laminated card as shown in the images and cut up into 15 smaller segments, each measuring approximately 1/4 x 1/15th inch.
These 15 smaller segments were then each affixed to a vintage Apollo 14 Orbit Covers cover marking “Man’s Third Moon Landing” with a printed cachet featuring the Moon Walking Astronauts and the mission and postmarked on the date of the Lunar landing, February 5, 1971. These covers were then marked as Nos. 1 – 15 A14-1. Each cover is accompanied by an APOLLOSPACE Letter of Authenticity.
