Description
This huge remnant layer of Apollo 9 Lunar Module flown Kapton foil, A09-FLOWNFOIL-HA-B, was originally part of the protective insulation of the Apollo 9 Lunar Module, “Spider,” the first manned Apollo Lunar Module, and was flown in space as part of that spacecraft from March 3-13, 1969. The original Kapton foil from which the accompanying remnant comes was retrieved from the Lunar Module by Apollo 9 Lunar Module Pilot Rusty Schweickart shortly before the LM was jettisoned from the Command Module.
The accompanying remnant was separated from a large kite-shaped multi-layered piece measuring approximately 5.75 x 4.5 inches (at widest) that was part of Rusty Schweickart’s personal collection until consigned by him to Heritage Auctions in June 2025 Auction #6317 as LOT #50148, shown below. That large piece of Kapton was purchased by APOLLOSPACE and the accompanying remnant layer was separated and removed from the original multi-layered remnant as shown in the other images.
The accompanying remnant of Apollo 9 flown Kapton foil marked as “A09-FLOWNFOIL-HA-B” accompanying this Letter and measuring approximately 5.75 x 4.5 inches (at widest) is authentic and genuine in all respects. A copy of Rusty’s Letter of Authenticity is provided along with an APOLLOSPACE Letter of Authenticity.
